ACC Regents approve 2015-16 budget

The Alvin Community College Board of Regents unanimously approved the 2015-16 budget during their meeting on July 30.

The $28.15 million budget includes a 2-percent raise for faculty and staff and minor capital improvements. The proposal is a slight increase from the $27.37 million budget for the current year.

At an August 6 meeting, regents will discuss the proposed tax rate of 20.4 cents per $100 of property value, which is the current rate. The rate includes 18.29 cents for Maintenance and Operations while 2.1 cents will go towards voter-approved debt.

In other action, regents approved hiring for several positions: Dr. Cynthia Griffith was named the Vice President of Instruction; Marilyn Dement was named Vice President of Student Services; Dr. Linda Austin was named Dean of Technical programs; James Simpson was named Dean and Executive Director of Continuing Education and Workforce Development and Holly Williams was named Director of Retention and Student Success.

Other personnel were approved for an administrative assistant as well as instructors in Court Reporting, Associate Degree Nursing, Chemistry, Office Administration and Process Technology.

The board also:
-received an update on the college’s strategic planning
-received a data report on the college fact book
-transferred of fund balance to institutional reserves
-approved tax resale offer
-approved monthly financial reports

The board will meet next on Thursday, August 6 at 7 p.m. in the Nolan Ryan Center.
