After much anticipation, a TopGolf location is coming to the area, with a location under way in Webster.
The high-tech golfing and entertainment venue is expected to open in the fall off the Gulf Freeway near Academy Sports.
Plans for the three-level facility at 21401 Gulf Freeway call for more than 100 hitting bays, each hosting up to six players at a time, and 3,000 square-feet of private event space. The location will also feature free Wi-Fi, a rooftop terrace and more than 2,000 HDTVs, according to the company.
The fast-growing Dallas-based company opened its first area location in 2012 off I-10 in west Houston.
The business concept mixes the popular, old-fashioned game of golf with technology, mixing in a food menu, full bar and plenty of flat-screen TVs. Each ball is equipped with a microchip that tells golfers the distance and accuracy of each shot.
“People call it a high-tech driving range, restaurant and bar,” said Zach Shor, TopGolf’s director of real estate, “but it’s usually shortened to ‘golf entertainment center.’”
The company is looking at 40 markets and plans to open 10 sites per year in the future.
