AISD students vote on new Shadow Creek HS mascot

Alvin ISD students recently had the opportunity to exercise their right to vote in an election for the Shadow Creek High School mascot. Students living in the Shadow Creek High School attendance boundary were all encouraged to stop by the Pearland Westside Library on either Tuesday, August 4 or on Saturday, August 8, to submit their vote.

Students and parents filled the library as they prepared to cast their vote. Only students were permitted to vote.

“This was a great opportunity for our students to play a role in the selection process of the Shadow Creek High School mascot,” mentioned Kelly Hestand, Shadow Creek High School principal. “We really want them to feel as if they have a voice and a say in their new school.”

Students could select from the Jaguars, the Sharks, the Spartans, the Storm, the Timberwolves, or the Titans; options that were narrowed down by a student committee after a community survey was conducted.

The voting machines were made available through the District’s partnership with the Brazoria County Commissioner’s Office.

“We are very appreciative of County Commissioner Adams, and his team for allowing us the opportunity to utilize the official voting machines, as well as county staff, in an effort to provide an engaging learning experience for students in Alvin ISD,” said Hestand.

The official announcement of the winning mascot will be made in the next few weeks. To stay informed of all things Shadow Creek High School and Alvin ISD, visit, or follow us on Twitter at @AlvinISD and @ShadowCreekHS.
