Friendswood ISD Trustees will address the coming year’s budget and tax rate at a special meeting Aug. 24.
The $45.6 million district budget was set to be discussed in a public meeting on Monday, but because the Texas Comptroller did not release “Truth in Taxation” software in time to publish a public notice 10 days before the meeting, its date must be changed, FISD staff reported.
Work on the budget began in January, and the budget and tax rate are set to be adopted by the school board on Aug. 24. The board voted Monday to change the day to Aug. 24.
According to preliminary budget documents, FISD is expecting a revenue increase in the coming year of nearly $2.2 million. The proposed tax rate for the 2015-16 budget is 1.367 cents per $100 valuation, unchanged from the current year.
The district’s fiscal year ends on Aug. 31.
The public budget meeting will be held at 7 p.m. during the Aug. 24 meeting, located in the board room at 302 Laurel Dr.
Also on Monday, Trustees approved new teaching staff for the current year as recommended by FISD staff. Laurie Montesinos will be a kindergarten teacher at Westwood Elementary, and Melanie Zuniga will teach math at Friendswood Junior High.
