Friendswood High theater students will take on the John Steinbeck classic, “The Grapes of Wrath” this fall.
Set in the Depression era, the historically significant tale of the Joads, an Oklahoma tenant farmer family setting out to California, will be staged on Oct. 16 through 18 at Friendswood High.
Auditions are set for Aug. 25.
Published in 1939, “The Grapes of Wrath” won a Pulitzer Prize for fiction and it was cited prominently when Steinbeck was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1962. A film version starring Henry Fonda in the lead role of Tom Joad, was released in 1940.
