Battle of the Badges set Saturday

Area firefighters and law enforcement officers are set to take part in the USA Boxing-sanctioned charity event known as “Battle of the Badges,” scheduled this Saturday in Galveston.

A total of 14 lightweight, middleweight, heavyweight and female bouts will kick off at 7 p.m. Saturday. Doors open at 5 p.m. at Moody Gardens Convention Center, 1 Hope Blvd. in Galveston.

Among those participating are the Pearland Police and Fire departments and the Friendswood Police Department.

Friendswood native Jeffrey Kimbal will represent Friendswood Police Department on the Blue Team. Officer Robert DaSilva will represent Pearland Police on the Blue Team and firefighter Dale Loewen will represent the Pearland Fire Department on the Red Team.

DaSilva and Loewen, who annually coordinate holiday fundraisers in Pearland, will face one another in the ring Saturday.

Advance tickets can be purchased at any Coastal Community FCU branch. General admission tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door on the day of the event.
