Hike and bike trails make progress

Local hike and bike systems moved a step closer to reality last week, when Pearland City Council approved an advance funding agreement necessary for its design.

The council Oked the agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation for the Green Tee Terrace and Shadow Creek Ranch Bike and Pedestrian Trails.

Under the agreement, TxDOT will fund a majority of the design costs: $435,897 for Green Tee Terrace and $250,562 in Shadow Creek Ranch.

The city will end up paying for 20 percent of the design costs.

“We make the expenditures, and we get reimbursed for 80 percent of that,” assistant City Manager Trent Epperson said.

City Manager Clay Pearson said the action merely moves the projects forward.

“Construction and advanced funding will come at a later date,” he said.
