Meridiana Elementary begins to take shape

In News by Reporter News

Meridiana Elementary School, now 30-percent complete with underground utilities, building foundation, first-floor slab and structural steel main frame in place, remains on schedule to open for the 2016 school year.

With a capacity for 800 students, the new on-site school in the Meridiana master-planned community has been designed with an emphasis on natural light for most instructional spaces to create the best-possible learning environment.

A key element in the building’s design is a centrally located, open-concept library spanning the full height of the two-story school featuring soaring, clerestory windows for additional natural light. Clear glazing will be used for the library’s exterior boundaries to establish a strong visual connection to the rest of the school.

Meridiana Elementary also will offer technology access throughout the building and house energy-efficient systems which are expected to reduce energy costs by 25-30 percent when compared to newer schools in surrounding Districts.

Meridiana, the premier master-planned community on Texas 288 minutes south of the Texas Medical Center, is located near the interchange of Texas 288 and Highway 6, where more than 5,500 new, single-family homes are planned.

The 2,700-acre master-planned community will be accessible by the new Meridiana Parkway (now County Road 56) interchange at Highway 288.
