Brazoria County Commissioners’ Court approved the 2016 budget at Commissioners’ Court on Sept. 8. This year’s budget process included four days of public hearings where county departments presented budget needs to Commissioner Court members. Budget requests were then discussed and considered. County Judge Sebesta stated, “We are pleased to be able to provide the residents of Brazoria County with a tax rate decrease this year of 1.25 cents, which is .1804 cents below the effective rate.” The current tax rate (2015) is at $0.4985. The new adopted rate will be $0.486.
“Due to an increase in county growth, additional services were included in the 2016 budget”, reported County Auditor Connie Garner. Garner stated “These services include law enforcement and road and bridge personnel, as well as funds for infrastructure improvements.” Also included in the 2016 budget, is a cost of living raise for county employees and step increase for eligible county employees. The new budget and tax rate goes into effect on Oct. 1.
