Alvin ISD Trustees recently approved the calling of the 2015 School Bond Election. The proposed bond package, as submitted by the Citizens’ Advisory Committee, includes 13 individual projects. It will provide five new campuses, replace the aging Alvin Elementary with a campus of equitable size and amenities of new campuses, upgrades to Memorial Stadium at Alvin High School, as well as the Alvin High School auditorium, a central district stadium, phase 2 of the Career and Technical Education Center, and a satellite transportation facility.
The Citizens’ Advisory Committee is comprised of community members, elected officials, business leaders, and parents who worked diligently for months to evaluate the district’s current capacity and future enrollment projections, along with the needs of student programs, prior to making a recommendation to the Board. Citizens interested in voting in the school bond election must be registered to vote by Oct. 5. Early voting will take place from Oct. 19-30. Election Day is Nov. 3.
