A community recruiting event focused on Scouting will be held Oct. 27 with help from Mayor Tom Reid, a longtime supporter of Scouting who earned the Eagle rank himself as a youth.

The “Mayor’s Leadership Challenge” is free to the public, there are no reservations required, and information will be provided about Scouting, along with opportunities to sign up.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at City Council Chambers at Pearland City Hall, 3519 Liberty.

Sign-ups at the event are open to boys in first grade to age 20 and girls from age 14 through 20. Those who sign up will receive Special Leadership Challenge Recognition.

Pearland has Scouting units close to 50 years old, and 19 units continue to provide programs for approximately 1,000 young people in the area.
