Allen Paul Allegra, 59, died on October 11, 2015, in Lagos, Nigeria. Allen was born on July 10, 1956 in Rockville Center, NY, and grew up in Margate City, New Jersey. After graduating high school, he attended Florida Institute of Technology where he received a degree in Engineering. Following his graduation, Allen began working in the oil and gas business with Global Marine Drilling and found his way to the greater Houston area. During a career that spanned over 35 years, Allen worked on numerous projects both on and offshore for Global Marine, and eventually Exxon Mobil. While at Exxon, he was assigned to (became a key part of) the projects in Nigeria, where he would work onsite.
Allen loved spending time with his family, whether at home in Friendswood, on the ski slopes of Utah or at the beach in Galveston. He was an avid snow skier and surfer but his greatest passion was aviation. He was a licensed pilot, owned a plane and loved flying.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. John Allegra of Long Beach, California.
Allen is survived by his wife of 27 years, Kathy Sue Allegra and their children Jonathan Coleman Allegra and Alexandra Lillian (“Lexi”) Allegra; by his parents John and Florence Allegra of Melbourne, Florida; by his brother Michael Allegra of Salt Lake City, Utah; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate Allen’s life at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Jeter Funeral Home Chapel, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546 (281) 992-7200 with Rev. John Wise officiating.
