shoemakerJoAnn Elizabeth Shoemaker, 69, of Friendswood, TX, passed away on November 18, 2015.  She was born November 6, 1946 in Montreal, Canada to Albert and Christina Hopley Pilkington, who preceded her in death.
JoAnn grew up in Otterburn, Quebec, Canada and graduated from McGill University in Montreal. After her graduation from McGill she worked as a nurse then went back for her teaching certificate and taught elementary school.  After moving to the Houston area in 1977 she worked as an office manager.
She was very active at Good Shepherd Episcopal church in Friendswood and served on many ministries.  JoAnn was an avid reader, some of her favorite authors being Clive Cussler, Nora Roberts, Tom Clancy, and Sue Grafton.  She was quite athletic and an accomplished skier and she loved sailing.  JoAnn tried to never miss and episode of The Amazing Race or NCIS.
JoAnn delighted in hosting six foreign exchange students from Kazakhstan:  Banu, Alyona, Diana, Moldir, Eugenia and Karina, who all became part of our extended family.
She is survived by her husband Jeff; daughter Elizabeth; and many loving relatives, cousins, and friends in both the US and Canada.
Memorial service will be held December 12 at 1:00 P.M. at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 1207 W. Winding Way Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546 with Father Geoff Gwynne officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in JoAnn’s name to Friendswood EMS, 1000 S. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546 or a charity of your choice.
