A free Americana music event Jan. 23 gives Brazoria County residents the opportunity to see an entertaining musical duo and craft a homemade instrument.

“The Old Common” featuring Tom Wilbeck and John Jackson will perform at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at the Brazoria County Historical Museum, featuring music taken from the mid-1800s through the 1920s.

According to the Americana Music Association, “Americana is contemporary music that incorporates elements of various American toots music styles, including country, rock, folk, bluegrass, R&B and blues.”

Entertaining audiences of all ages throughout the state, the duo mixes two-part harmony with guitar, ukulele, mountain dulcimer, cigar box guitar and “banjolele.”

Guests may also see various home-made instruments and then craft one of their own to take home.

Admission is free, but seating is limited. The Brazoria County Historical Museum is located at 100 E. Cedar, Angleton. For more information, visit the museum’s Facebook page or call 979-864-1208.
