The Alvin Community College Board of Regents approved updates to the local board policies during their meeting on June 23.

Board members formed a subcommittee in November 2014 to review the policies and make the needed changes. The board held several workshops and worked with the Texas Association of School Boards to determine how best to make adjustments.

The changes are required due to recent updates in state law.

The policy updates will be posted to the college’s website.

In other action, regents approved amendments to the 2015-16 fiscal year budget to account for expenditure changes.

The budget amendments also included funds for equipment purchases for drafting, Emergency Medical Technology, Associate Degree Nursing, Process Technology and more.

Regents took time to recognize Shemilore Oguntoye, of Alvin, for being named to a USA Today All Academic list through Phi Theta Kappa. Shemi is a recent graduate from the college and is currently working for the Physical Plant department.

ACC President Dr. Christal M. Albrecht reported to the board about recent news of the Licensed Vocational Nursing graduates who posted a 100 percent pass rate on their recent licensure exam for the fifth consecutive year; she also spoke about the passing of Pearland officer and ACC graduate Endy Ekpanya who is a member of the Law Enforcement Academy’s 105th class and ACC hosted a job fair for Empereon-Constar to help fill 250 positions on June 7-9.

Regents also:
– received a data report on Associate Degree and certificate recipients
– approved the hiring of a head librarian
– approved grant application for Nursing grant for equipment purchases and curriculum development
– approved schedule for future meeting dates

The board will have its next meeting on July 28 at 6 p.m. in the Nolan Ryan Center. For more information, call 281-756-3500 or visit www.alvincollege.edu.
