Pearland continues to be among the nation’s fastest-growing cities, making a recently released list at No. 8.
The U.S. Census Bureau’s ranking of fastest-growing cities with a population of more than 50,000 reports Pearland’s growth rate between July 2014 and July 2015 at 5.3 percent.
Pearland is among the larger cities listed on the top 15 ranking, with a 2015 population of 108, 821. Only Frisco, Texas, and Murfreesboro, Tenn. had larger populations.
In 2013, Pearland made it into the No. 15 spot in the fastest-growing cities list.
In the most recent ranking, five of the nation’s 11 fastest-growing cities are in Texas, the Bureau reported. Ranked at No. 1 and 2, respectively, are Georgetown and New Braunfels. Georgetown’s population increased by 7.8 percent from July 2014 to July 2015, earning the top spot for fastest-growing city with a population of 50,000 or more. The Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area during that period crossed into the 2 million population threshold for the first time.
