Transition lane to be added on Friendswood Link

A new transition lane has been approved for Friendswood Link/Whispering Pines Road area in Friendswood. City Council approved the new addition at their July 11 meeting at City Hall.

For safety and navigability reasons, a transition lane of approximately 60 linear feet had been proposed to assist in minimizing driver confusion and to improve the roadway for travel.

The replacement and widening of Friendswood Link/Whispering Pines Road was originally approved by Council in 2014.

The work involves three west-bound lanes becoming one lane at Hibiscus. The new transition lane would benefit drivers as the road reduces to fewer lanes.

Currently, there are chevrons in place behind street curbs to direct traffic during the alignment shift.

City officials report that the signage is not sufficient. Tire marks are evident on the yellow curb and the city has had to replace chevrons at the location due to driver problems.

The project is under the direction of David Wight Construction of Alvin.
