The Friendswood ISD Board of Trustees has been selected as a regional nominee for Texas Association of School Administrators’ (TASA) 2016 Outstanding School Board Award.

The group of seven elected officials are one of 15 school boards from Texas Education Service Center Regions to be selected as regional nominees. FISD board members include Rebecca Hillenburg, Matt Robinson, Ralph Hobratschk, Tony Hopkins, David Montz, Robert McCabe, and Denise Ruiz.

When the Board was nominated for Region IV Board of the Year, Mike Shaw was on the board but he has since retired. Ruiz is an interim board member.

Along with Friendswood ISD, the following school districts have school boards that are also regional nominees: Roma ISD, Robstown ISD, Little Cypress-Mauriceville ISD, Lancaster ISD, Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD, Aquilla ISD, Waco ISD, Navarro ISD, Comanche ISD, Early ISD, Denver City ISD, Reagan County ISD, Knippa ISD, and Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD.

Five boards will be recognized as Honor Boards and will be interviewed at the TASA/TASB Convention in Houston Sept. 23-25. One will be named Outstanding School Board of the Year during that event.

“The FISD board exudes the best of what is good about public education,” said Trish Hanks, Superintendent of Schools. “Our Trustees have special servant leadership qualities and we are excited about this opportunity to share the remarkable things they have done for FISD.”

TASA is the professional association for Texas public school administrators, providing networking and professional learning opportunities, legislative advocacy, and targeted communications to support the work of superintendents and other school leaders.
