Pauline Fitzgerald Whitley began her earthly life on Tuesday, August 17, 1920, in the small sawmill town of Oakhurst, in San Jacinto County, Texas, and began her heavenly life on Thursday, July 21, 2016, at age 95 from Bryan, Texas; although she was a life-long resident of Friendswood, Texas since 1956.  When the Hospice Brazos Valley In-Patient Facility nurse called at eleven o’clock at night to say she had passed of natural old age, the family felt such instant grief and cried out in sorrow because she was gone from us, but at the same time there are other loved ones and friends who were watching for her coming and their glad voices shouted, “Here she comes! Praise God! Welcome Home Pauline.” And so with the ultimate experience of God’s grace she went into the arms of Jesus; she began her eternal life.  Pauline knew the promise of Jesus in John 11:25, and shared this message with everyone:  “I am the Resurrection and the Life.  He who believes in Me will live again, even if he dies; and whoever lives and believes in Me will never die.”
Pauline was born as an only child to farmer Robert James Fitzgerald and housewife Myrtle Skeen Fitzgerald. After her folks’ marriage dissolved in 1922, she was raised mostly by her grandparents Lewis Cass and Mary Margaret “Mollie” Skeen, and grew up among her cousins from the Alex Rosell Cozby family, from Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri.
She has joined her loved ones preceding her in death including her husband of 63 years, Clemons W. Whitley, and son Billy R. Whitley.  She is survived by two sons, Ray A. Whitley and Charles “Butch” W. Whitley, and their families; her eight grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins; and many friends and customers whom she loved as family.
Her service of worship and celebration will be at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr, Friendswood, TX 77546.  Visitation will be Tuesday, July 26, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Celebration of Life, and sharing of memories, on Wednesday, July 27, 10:00 a.m.  The interment at East Sandy Cemetery of Bethal Baptist Church, 5744 FM 1374, in New Waverly, Texas, is at 3:00 p.m., that same afternoon, in the Whitley family gravesite.
