Bob, as he was known, grew up on a family farm on Gopher Hill in Weeletka, Oklahoma. When he was 17, he joined the Navy to support the WWII warriors at Balboa Naval Base in San Diego.
After his time in the Navy, he went to work for Halliburton, servicing oil wells and later working drilling rigs as a derrick man in the Oklahoma panhandle and in Wyoming. His sister introduced him to Joyce Roberts, and they fell in love. They were married in Raton, New Mexico in 1950. In 1955, he went to work for Phillips Petroleum and moved to Alvin, Texas. In 1965, he transferred to a remote part of southeastern Utah, to the Phillips camp on a Navajo reservation. In 1970, he accepted a job with Amoco Chemical and moved back to Alvin, as they were building a new plant on Chocolate Bayou.
Bob’s hobbies were winemaking, reading, genealogy, country western dancing, fishing, gardening, financial news and investments, and having a glass of wine with friends. He was exceptional story teller, historian, and proud member the Masons.
His greatest love was for his family. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
