Pearland senior QB Connor Blumrick and Friendswood senior QB Tyler Page were both honored by the Touchdown Club of Houston as pre-season All-Greater Houston team selections.
Both signal-callers are at opposite ends of the spectrum as the 6-foot-7, 215 lb. Blumrick is the drop-back pocket passer with the ability to scramble if necessary whereas the 6-0, 185 lb. Page is a highlight reel ready to happen as opposing defenses ready themselves for a scary evening of trying to catch the elusive field general.
The two quarterbacks had outstanding seasons last year as Blumrick led the Oilers to a sparkling 11-1 season while winning the District 22-6A championship. Pearland lost to Dickinson in the area round in three overtimes.
Blumrick was 106-for-176 passing for 1,478 yards, 13 TDs, and six INTs in 2015. He also had 263 yards rushing on 48 carries.
Pearland defensive back Debione Renfro was also selected on the defensive side of the ball for the Oilers. Renfro will be one of the defensive leaders for Pearland’s defensive unit this season.
Page had a banner season in 2015 for the Mustangs in leading the offense to video-like numbers. The Mustangs were 8-5 on the season and were eliminated by eventual 6A Div. II state champion Katy in the regional semifinals.
The elusive signal-caller had one of the more productive seasons in recent memory especially his ability to run the football.
Page was 82-for-162 passing for 1,179 yards and 13 TDs with eight INTs. He had 333 carries for 2,124 yards and 24 TDs giving him a total of 3,303 yards and 37 TDs.
Only former Friendswood QB Jordan Wood (2012) has more rushing yards and touchdowns in a single season with 2,368 yards and 40 TDs.
Page was named as the 2015 District 24-6A Offensive Player of the Year.
