Ralph Mellon Verlander, Jr., 60, of Friendswood, TX, also known as Dad, Papa, and VanGo passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2016. He was born December 1, 1955 to Ralph M. Verlander, Sr., and Rose Marie Sellars Verlander in San Diego, CA.
VanGo lived life full throttle with a contagious smile on his face. When he loved, he loved with his whole being. He was strong and tough, the true definition and image of a biker. His presence was larger than life. Ralph made an impact on anyone he came in contact with, including those he never met. Thanks in part to the toe tickling biker image that went viral on the internet. Underneath all of his strength and toughness was a kind, gentle and loving man. He had a weakness for children, animals, his loved ones and anyone in need; and was he ever loved in return. There was never a child or animal that feared this gentle giant.
He was preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandparents, James M. and Mary Genevieve Verlander; maternal grandparents, Samuel and Merle Sellars; and his uncle James M. Verlander, Jr.
Ralph is survived by his wife at heart, Kellie Verlander; daughter Amber Kay Crook; 3 children at heart, Monica Burns, Tyler and Tara Hoyland; 2 grandchildren, Dylan and Shianne Crook; 6 grandchildren at heart, Gracey Jo Harper, Kaylee Carlton, Tristan, Talin and Treyton Hoyland and Aaron Bell; 3 siblings, Tanya Verlander, Kim and husband Sam Rush and Vicki Province; aunt Yvonne Marrou; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; his motorcycle families; and countless others he loved.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546 (281) 992-7200 with Chaplain Mark “Burley” Bradshaw officiating.
