The oath of office for the appointed directors of the recently formed Friendswood Downtown Economic Development Corporation was given at the City Council meeting Sept. 12.
Directors taking the oath included Patrick McGinnis, Rebecca Hillenburg, Paul Marx, Elmer Johnson, Jr., Ron Cox, Arden Hill, and Alton Todd.
At the July 11 City Council meeting, the Mayor recommended the formation of the Friendswood Downtown Economic Development Corporation and appointed the directors.
The oath of office was administered at the Council meeting for ceremonial purposes only in that the directors took their oath at their first meeting held on Aug. 23, at City Hall.
The purpose of the group is to support and enhance the community by promotion of economic development and growth through the development of new businesses and the retention or expansion of existing businesses in the downtown area of the city.
Each director will serve a term of two years and will meet monthly the second Tuesday of the month at 4 p.m. at City Hall at 910 S. Friendswood Drive. Staff support will be given by Economic Development Coordinator Karen Capps.
At the group’s first meeting, officers were elected. The officers are as follows: President Ron Cox, Vice President Alton Todd, and Secretary/Treasurer Patrick McGinnis.
