Delmar Eugene “Gene” McGlothlin Sr., 68, of Dickinson, TX passed away on Friday, September 9, 2016.  Gene was born in Luling, TX on April 3, 1948 to Joann Rice and Delmar McGlothlin.
Gene was preceded in death by his father, Delmar McGlothlin; step-father, Louis Douglas Rice; and daughter, Janice Laningham.
He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Pamala McGlothlin of Dickinson, TX; mother, Joann Rice of Cleburne, TX; and sisters: Gail Bolgiano of Cleburne, TX and Judy George and husband Richard of Cleburne, TX; five children, numerous grandchildren,  great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other loving relatives and friends.
Gene was a prince of a man. He was kind, generous, and he was always thinking about others. Gene would give you the shirt off his back. He was a fair man.  He could be firm when he had to, but most of the time he was a big teddy bear. Gene was very outgoing and never met a stranger.  He was a family man. He loved his family and friends and was very loyal.
Gene worked in the towboat industry for 50 years. He loved what he did and he was very good at it. He was a hands-on Captain. He worked alongside his crew. If they chipped and painted, he chipped and painted too. Gene was a friend to many people, he trained a lot of people, and was always there when anyone needed him.
His favorite past times were hunting and spending time with all his grandchildren. They were his world.
Visitation was held Tuesday, September 13, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, TX, (281) 992-7200.
