Two win photo contest for Friendswood’s Heritage Junior Masters Gardeners

Two members of the Junior Master Gardeners program in Friendswood won in the Gardening Photo Contest offered by the Green Education Foundation (GEF) and Gardener’s Supply Company.

JMG leader and Master Gardener Kaye Corey worked with the students to select photos that represented their work at Briscoe Gardens at the Marie Workman Heritage Garden Center in Friendswood. Corey also sent an article about the club and its activities with the photos.

Ashleigh Loe, 13, won with her photo of her work with container gardens. She is in seventh grade and is a certified Junior Master Gardener.

Also winning was Andrew Loe, 6, and in first grade. He is a member of the Heritage Junior Master Gardeners program. His photo showed a pepper he grew in his container garden in Friendswood.

Ashleigh and Andrew Loe’s parents are Greg and Valerie Loe of Taylor Lake Village.

The Heritage Junior Masters Gardeners won a $25 gift certificate from Gardener’s Supply Company.

At the end of the contest, GEF and Gardener’s Supply will announce one grand prize winner who will receive a $1000 gift certificate and $250.

Green Education Foundation (GEF) is a non-profit organization committed to creating a sustainable future through education.

Their mission statement on their website states that GEF provides curriculum and resources to K-12 students and teachers worldwide with the goal of challenging them to think holistically and critically about global environmental concerns and solutions.
