Two upcoming events sponsored by the City of Friendswood were discussed in the City Manager’s Report to Council Oct. 3 at their regular meeting.
The 14th Annual Broker Developer Event is planned for Oct. 27 at Timber Creek Golf Club. It will again this year fall on the same day as the Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Swing Into Fall Golf Tournament.
Each year, the Broker Developer event has had approximately 40 participants and many participate in the Chamber’s afternoon golf tournament, according to City Manager Roger Roecker.
The Broker Developer Event is sponsored this year by CenterPoint Energy’s Economic Development Department.
The Friendswood Mayor, Assistant City Manager, Chair of the Community and Economic Development Committee, and Economic Development Coordinator will make presentations and interact with the attending commercial brokers and developers interested in doing business in Friendswood.
The City teamed up with the Chamber in October 2003 to begin offering the City event and Chamber golf tournament on the same day.
The second event discussed in Roecker’s report was Fall Haul Clean Up Event.
On Nov. 14, which is America Recycles Day, the City and Keep Friendswood Beautiful are holding the Annual Fall Haul community clean-up and garage sale event at Centennial Park, 2200 S. Friendswood Dr., from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Only non-hazardous items will be accepted. Examples of non-hazardous items that will be accepted include tree limbs, grass clippings, old appliances, old furniture, wood, metal, and large and small plastic items.
Free paper shredding sponsored by JSC Federal Credit Union will be available from 8 am to noon. A 200 lb. limit of paper per vehicle will be allowed. No three-ring binders, cardboard, floppy disks, hanging file folders, newspaper, microfiche, or video tapes can be shredded.
Hazardous Waste will not be accepted. Examples of hazardous waste include tires, paint, batteries, oil, or any other household hazardous waste.
“Residents can donate garage sale items to Keep Friendswood Beautiful. KFB will be accepting furniture, household items, bikes, etc. in good condition (clothing will not be accepted). Garage sale items can be dropped off the morning of the event at Centennial Park. All proceeds from the garage sale will benefit the beautification of city facilities and parks,” Roecker said.
KFB will be collecting items that would benefit the wildlife rehabbers in Friendswood. Rehabbers need aquariums even if they do not hold water, dog and cat kennel carriers, clean rags from towels or shirts, and shallow crock bowls.
“These volunteers take care of the many injured wild animals that make their homes in Friendswood’s green space,” Roecker said.
Roecker reminded everyone that Fall Haul Away Clean Up is not an area-wide event, but is presented for the benefit of the citizens of Friendswood.
