No. 1 area-ranked Manvel blew past the Ball High Tornadoes and diminished them to a mere breeze 48-10 to remain undefeated on the season at 5-0 while picking up their second District 23-5A victory.

The Mavericks set the tone from the get-go, when junior Kam Scott returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a 7-0 lead, six seconds into the game.

The Tors tried to answer driving down to the Maverick 37-yard line before they coughed up the ball on a fumble.

Manvel turned the miscue into another touchdown on a seven-play, 52 yard drive capped off by quarterback Kason Martin finding Jalen Preston for a 14-0 lead at 4:23 of the first quarter.

Martin then found receiver Michael Tolds on a short crossing route that turned into a 66-yard touchdown pass for a 21-0 lead with 1:35 left in the first quarter.

Manvel continued to put up points on the scoreboard as Caleb Jolivette burned the Tors for a 61-yard scoring jaunt with 10:52 left in the second quarter for a 28-0 advantage.

Ball finally got on the board with 2:37 remaining before intermission with a 28-yard field goal by Anthony Smecca.

But the Mavs weren’t finished as Caleb Blanton caught a 31-yard scoring strike from Martin with no time left in the first half for a 35-3 halftime lead.

Maverick running back Deneric Prince found the end zone on a 60-yard sprint to begin the second half scoring, giving Manvel a 42-3 lead with 7:08 left in the third period.

Later in the quarter, the lead swelled to 48-3 after Martin found wide receiver Keylon Stokes for a 20-yard scoring hookup to increase the lead to 48-3.

Ball finally added one more score when Derrell Radin scored on a 1-yard plunge to post the final 48-10 score with 5:34 left in the game.

The Tors were limited to just 157 yards of total offense on 12 first downs — nine of which were gifted to them by Manvel penalties — while Manvel exploded for 433 total yards.

Martin was 14-of-19 passing for 240 yards and four TDs. Jolivette had three carries for 97 yards and one TD with Prince picking up 78 yards on three totes and one score.

Stokes had seven catches for 102 yards and one TD and Tolds had one grab for 66 yards and one TD.

Manvel (5-0, 2-0) will host Fort Bend Marshall (5-0, 2-0) on Friday, Oct. 7 at 7:00 p.m. at Alvin Memorial Stadium. Both teams are undefeated entering the 23-5A showdown.
