Manvel blew out Texas City 51-10 at Alvin Memorial Stadium to keep a perfect 8-0 mark overall and 5-0 in district.
The win gives the Mavericks the District 23-5A title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming playoffs even though there are still two league games remaining on their schedule.
Manvel sent a strong message early to their district foes when they knocked off state powers North Shore and Pearland to begin the season. No team in the district has offered a whimper of resistance and there is no doubt that the Mavs will roll over Santa Fe (3-5, 1-4) and Galena Park (2-5, 0-5) down the stretch to close the regular season at 10-0. Both teams are at the bottom of the league standings.
The Mavs did all of their scoring in the first half and then turned the game over to the reserves in the second half.
Manvel QB Kason Martin was 14-of-17 passing for 186 yards and five touchdown.
He threw touchdown strikes to Keylon Stokes covering 30 and 7-yards. He also had two scoring passes to Michael Tolds for 30 and 21-yards. Jalen Preston also grabbed a scoring pass for 13-yards.
The Mavs got a 28-yard scoring dash from Da’Quan Thompson and a 3-yard touchdown run by Warren Laster.
Preston also scored in the second quarter on a 58-yard punt return for a touchdown.
The Manvel defense put the Mavs on the board first with a safety with 8:08 left in the opening period.
Manvel led 9-0 when Texas City scored their only touchdown of the game with 6:01 left in the first quarter to close the gap to 9-7.
But the Mavs went on a 42-0 run to close out the first half making the score 51-7.
The Stingarees got a 37-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter by Ricardo Robledo to set the 51-10 final score.
Stokes had five catches for 78 yards and two TDs. Preston had four grabs for 61 yards and a score. Tolds had three receptions for 57 yards and two TDs.
Manvel will travel to Santa Fe to face the Indians on Friday, Oct. 28 at 7:00 p.m.
