Effective in November, the Pearland Independent School District Board of Trustees is moving public comment period to the beginning of its regular monthly meetings.
Trustees meet at 5 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the Education Support Center, 1928 N. Main.
Note: Because of Election Day, the November board meeting has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 15.
Although individuals may address the board during public comment period, trustees cannot take action on any item unless it is on the published agenda.
Sign-up time for public comment will be before 5 p.m., with public comment at 5:05 — immediately after the opening of the meeting and declaration of a quorum.
Individuals may address the board for five minutes each, with public comment lasting no longer than 30 minutes total. Afterward, the board will move into closed executive session.
The public comment time change will allow meetings to run more efficiently and quickly, eliminating additional breaks before or after public comment or student recognition.
Pearland ISD invites those who want to address the board but cannot attend public comment to use other avenues to contact trustees, including phone, email or conventional mail.
According to Texas Association of School Boards policy, school boards are not required to hold a public comment period. Pearland ISD offers public comment as one avenue for the community to communicate with trustees.
