Friendswood Police Department Crossing guard Rebeca Wall was awarded the Five Star Spirit Award for the third quarter of 2016 at the regular meeting of City Council Nov. 7.

Wall was nominated after she was seen performing an heroic act in the city.

At the corner of FM 528 and Bay Area Blvd, she was serving as crossing guard in a very active school zone. As she was crossing the intersection with students, she noticed a motorist driving rapidly and not obeying school zone traffic laws.

She was observed stepping in front of the vehicle, shielding the children with her body. This was an act of putting herself in danger to protect the students from injury.

Her service as crossing guard showcases the attributes of the Five Star Spirit Award: being courteous, competent, reliable, professional and enthusiastic.

She was acknowledged at the meeting for her willingness to step up and take action while showing compassion for others.

Wall has worked for the City of Friendswood since 2011.
