Pearland High School Construction Management students are not only building carpentry skills but also building partnerships.
Through funding from the Citizens Police Academy, PHS students recently built nine props — wooden cars, bushes and fences — for the upcoming Pearland Police Department and Pearland Parks and Recreation Bike Rodeo.
Under the direction of teacher Jeff Woodruff, PHS students spent six weeks of the fall semester designing and assembling the props, which will help teach children how to avoid most common bike dangers on public and private streets.
“We truly appreciate PHS students’ work on this project. Not only can we use the props for the Bike Rodeo, but we’ll also use them for future children’s bike safety education courses throughout the community,” Sgt. Carlton Eschete, PPD Bike Patrol Unit, said.
The free Bike Rodeo will be held at the Pearland Recreation Center and Natatorium (4141 Bailey Rd.) Saturday, Nov. 19, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
