Veterans were recognized and honored at the annual In Honor of Our Veterans Luncheon hosted by the City of Friendswood Nov. 10 at the Friendswood Activity Building. The luncheon was free and open to the community.

City Recreation Superintendent Michael Boyett welcomed the large crowd that filled the center.

Clear Brook Junior ROTC members presented the colors and served as volunteers at the luncheon. City Manager Roger Roecker and State Representative Greg Bonnen spoke along with Congressman Randy Weber.

A group of veterans spoke about their experiences in military service and a large group of exhibits put together by veterans were on display for all to enjoy after the luncheon.

Mona Palmer of the Senior Citizen Advisory Committee gave the invocation with Dennis Rundell and Nancy Mastrofrancesco providing music and accompaniment to “America the Beautiful” and a sing-along to “God Bless America” which ended the program.

“This was a wonderful luncheon and a great way to honor veterans. So many people were here that I know and the veterans who spoke touched the crowd with their memories,” Friendswood resident Ann Landers said. Landers attended the luncheon with her husband Richard who is an US Army veteran.
