Two Friendswood High School Seniors have been named semifinalists in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship competition. Seniors Christine Nguyen and Hannah Xia were honored at the Nov. 14 meeting of the FISD School Board with Celebration of Excellence awards and certificates.
Approximately 16,000 high school seniors were named in the 62nd annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
Semifinalists have an opportunity to continue in the competition for approximately 7,400 National Merit Scholarships worth about $32 million that will be offered next spring.
Six teachers were also honored.
From Windsong Intermediate, iCoach Jason Norman and principal’s secretary Hope Coburn were honored. Norman has been with FISD for four years, Coburn for five.
From Friendswood Junior High, Spanish teacher Kimberly Hall and receptionist Denise Baker were recognized by the Board. Hall has worked in FISD for three years and Baker two.
Melissa Victorick, speech and PALS sponsor at FHS was honored along with Emily Rich, assistant to the Assistant Principal there. Victorick has been with FISD for 16 years. Rich has worked in FISD for 10 years.
They all received Making a Difference Awards and certificates.
