Manvel Economic Development November Board meeting began with an update developments and ongoing projects. Retail Coach was contracted to help assist and guide potential businesses such as retail, doctors’ offices and more to the area. Retail Coach is a National retail consulting, marketing research and development firm. They work with many local governments, chambers of commerce and economic development organizations in an effort to find the right businesses desired and needed in specific areas. Retail Coach is currently targeting Ace Hardware, Arby’s, Dollar Tree, Freddy’s, and Walmart to name just a few.

Melody Hanson and Karen Kinlaw attended a conference in Dallas that they felt was very beneficial to the group. The information obtained and contacts made would be used in the future growth of business to the City of Manvel. Karen Kinlaw and Melody Hanson gave an update to council at last week’s city council meeting.

The current goal of the MEDC is to create a list of business that would be beneficial to the area and rate them by importance. The MEDC provides some assistant to new business; such as help with infrastructure that is needed for a business and future business growth in that area of town. Many of the dollars spent are not clearly seen by the citizens of Manvel, because they are water and sewer lines that run underground. The board also agreed to place a sign at sites where money is being spent so that citizen can see what the Manvel EDC is doing in their community. The sign will read, “Another Project Funded by the Manvel Economic Development Corporation.”
