Richard Dickson left us in style, aboard the MS Silver Whisper Cruise Ship, passing through the Panama Canal on Thursday, December 8th 2016. Richard was the son of the late Henry Evans Dickson and Gertrude Hunt Dickson.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother and father and nephew, Jimmy Dickson.
Richard shared his life with his darling bride, Cynthia Tyrrell Dickson, his son, Christopher Henry Dickson, Christopher’s wife, Gloria and the darling of his eye, his granddaughter, “Baby Gabs,” Gabriella Ocean Dickson, all whom live in Merritt Island, Florida.
He is survived by his granddaughter Gabriella Dickson, son, Christopher Dickson, brother, Jim Dickson, sister-in-law, Hita, in-laws, cousins and friends from around the world.
Richard lived life to the fullest, accomplishing feats that would take the average person three lives to achieve. His strongest love and passion was always flying. He enjoyed a remarkable career as a pilot for Eastern Airlines that took him from the Lockheed Constellation to the mighty L-1011. In addition to that he also piloted many rare vintage aircraft after his retirement from Eastern. His other passions included boating and fishing. Richard traveled the world always in pursuit of the next big catch. In addition, he enjoyed skiing the Swiss Alps, gazing at the fields of flowers in Peru, and delighted in exquisite foods from China, Russia, Europe, Mexico, and many an island. He was also a co-founder of Dickson Furniture Industries in Houston, taking many trips to the Far East to represent the furniture company. He loved his dogs, especially Matilda, the English bulldog. We often said that if there really was reincarnation, Richard would come back at “Tilly” and sit on someone’s lap like his!
He was a strong, proud, distinguished and accomplished man, a dedicated father to the end. He was one of those men that just seemed to know something about everything.
