A fitness fundraiser is being held in Pearland to help the Dawson High School Eagle Band and Catalyst Color Guard.

It’s the 7th annual Dawson Winter Dash and it kicks off Winterfest this year.

Area runners and walkers are invited to participate in the annual event on Saturday, Jan. 28 on Bailey Road north of Pearland’s Recreation Center and Natatorium. The fundraiser offers a 5k run and a one mile fun run.

The 1 mile fun run begins at 8:30 a.m. and chip-timed 5k event begins at 9 a.m. The 5k is a certified race where points are earned for individual runners.

Early registration is available on-line at www.thedriven.net/dawsondash.

Walk-up registration is also available at packet pick-up Friday, Jan. 27 at the Recreation Center and Natatorium from 2 – 6 p.m. and at the starting area the morning of the race, according to Winter Dash Chairman Fernando de la Garza.

Pearland’s Winterfest follows the race and will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. outside the Recreation Center and Natatorium at 4141 Bailey Road in Pearland.

The winter-themed festival features snow tubing and snow play areas, carnival, live entertainment, petting zoo and more.

Each Winter Dash race participant will receive a ticket to Winterfest.

All proceeds from the Winter Dash race will benefit the Dawson High School Eagle Band and Catalyst Color Guard.

Funds raised in the past have been used toward clinicians for individual band members, transportation, purchasing uniforms and supplies, senior scholarships, and contest fees. Partial contributions have gone to the annual banquet and annual marching season music.

“The number of runners involved in the event have increased every year. Last year we had approximately 350 runners and we’re hoping for additional runners this year,” de la Garza said.
