Paula Yde McElligott, 51, passed away peacefully after a short illness surrounded by family in Methodist Hospital, Houston on January 5, 2017.
Paula Sue was born on October 25, 1965. She was the 4th child born to Gene Avery and Eleanor (Umstead) Yde in Lewistown, Montana. She spent her childhood in Bozeman, Montana and graduated from Bozeman Senior High School in 1984. Paula was a phenomenal tennis player and was named a Prince All American Player in high school.
She attended Montana State University in Bozeman and received her undergraduate degree in Education and Physical Education in 1989. It was there she met her future husband Vince. They married following graduation on June 23, 1989 in Bozeman.
After graduation, they moved to Washington, D.C. where they lived until 1995. During these years Paula worked for Interstate Truckload Carriers Conference, a division of the American Trucking Association as their office and membership development manager. Their first child, Maryan Theresa was born November 16, 1993 in Washington, DC. Maximilian Thomas followed on July 21, 1995.
One week after Max’s birth, the family moved to Fort Collins, CO. They lived in Colorado from 1995-2002. It was here that Paula retired to her favorite job: full time mom!
In 2002, the family moved to their current home in Friendswood, TX. During these years, Paula dedicated her life and talents to her children and family. She attended every soccer game her daughter played, every baseball game her son played, and every school function that needed organization and direction. Her organizational skills were legendary among her friends. If anyone needed anything, Paula was there. She continued that dedication when her daughter Maryan began at University of Central Oklahoma, Edmond, OK (soccer) and Max began at Rice University, Houston (baseball, rugby).
Paula spent so much quality time with her parents as they followed the family to Fort Collins and Friendswood. Paula and her mom Eleanor shopped, quilted and baked! Her giving heart lives on in the multitude of baby blankets and matching doll blankets made by the two that are littered across the country. These could have been given to family, friends or new friends they had just met. They took several cross country road trips to visit family and friends. Paula loved crafting. During her children’s high school years, the house was converted to Homecoming Mum Central. She spent thousands of hours creating Homecoming mums for her daughter and others. Paula was known to make house calls if there was a ‘mum emergency’. She loved crosswords, puzzles and reading. She loved cooking and baking; testing out new recipes to feed the kids and any extra ball players. She was generous with her time and talent; a true friend to others and an organizational diva for all.
Paula is preceded in death by her father Gene. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Vince, and two children, Maryan (23) and Max (21); her mother, Eleanor; her sister, Janet Yde Inver Grove Heights, MN; brother, Chris (Ginger) Helena, MT; and brother, Eric (Anna) Idaho Falls, ID as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday January 10, 2017 at 11 am at Jeter Funeral, 311 North Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, TX 77546. A reception will follow at Villa Capri in 3713 NASA Road 1, Seabrook, TX
