Eight FHS Choir students successfully auditioned for membership in the Texas All-State Choirs on Saturday, Jan. 7. The auditions were held at Ridge Point High School and included both singing and sight-reading components. All-State is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive.

Senior, Maddie Pertuis will be in the All-State Mixed Choir; Maddie is a 2-year All-State Alto 2 member along with senior Alex Rudd, Bass1 and sophomore William Clyburn, Tenor 2.

Senior Kylee Hill is a 2-year All-State Alto 2 member of the Treble Band. Other members selected to the All-State Treble Choir are senior Gabriela Gonzalez, Alto 2, senior Marina Meche, Soprano 2, junior Emily Mesa, Alto 1 and junior Jamie Laurents, Alto 1.

The students will perform at the Texas Music Educators Association annual convention, held in San Antonio, on Feb. 11. In September, 15,000 students begin the audition process; only 500 are selected for the All-State Choirs following four rounds of auditions.

Janwin Overstreet-Goode and Mike Tyer are the sponsors of the Choir program.
