Filing has begun for the Pearland City Council election for May 6.

Information packets for interested candidates can be picked up in the City Secretary’s Office at City Hall.

The ballot in May will have the positions of Mayor and At-Large Positions 3 and 7 up for election and At-Large Position 5 to fill an unexpired term.

At-Large Position 5 was recently added when Councilman Greg Hill resigned his position, announcing he was planning to run for Judge for County Court at Law No. 1 in Brazoria County. The Hon. Judge Jeri Mills is retiring her bench.

Hill’s official announcement was placed on his Facebook account where he revealed his intentions to want to represent all of Brazoria County.

By resigning and not completing his term as Council member, the City will be able to replace him on the May election ballot instead of having to host a special election later.

Currently, the Mayor is Tom Reid and Councilman in Position 3 is Gary Moore. At-Large Position 7 is new to Council.

Candidate filing for Mayor and Positions 3 and 7 runs through Feb. 17. All required forms for filing to be on the ballot must be returned to the City Secretary’s Office by Feb. 17 at 5 p.m.

For the unexpired term for At-Large Position 5, candidate filing will run from Feb. 14 to March 3 at 5 p.m.

The City Secretary’s Office is located at City Hall at 3519 Liberty in Pearland.
