Friendswood has been named as the Safest City in the Houston area, the sixth Safest City in Texas and the 60th Safest City in the nation, according to NeighborhoodScout.com website.

City Manager Roger Roecker reported the news to the City Council during its regular meeting Feb. 6.

Research data used by NeighborhoodScout.com is composed of the total number of crimes reported to the FBI to have occurred in each city and the city population. The website bases its conclusions with cities with 25,000 or more in population on crime statistics. These crimes would be the number of property and violent crimes per 1,000 residents.

rimes include aggravated assault, burglary, motor vehicle theft, larceny-theft, murder, rape, and armed robbery.

From the data, NeighborhoodScout.com names the 100 Safest Cities.

“It is gratifying to be recognized again by an organization that relies on ‘apples to apples’ statistical data over a period of years,” City Manager Roger Roecker said. “Our thanks go to the men and women of our Police Department and to the residents who have been responsive to the ‘If you see something, say something’ instruction from our Police.”
