The Manvel Lady Mavericks clinched the District 23-5A championship with a hard-fought 48-38 win over the Ball High Lady Tors.
Ball High raced out to a 7-0 first quarter lead, but Manvel got a pair of 3-pointers to get back in the game as the Lady Tors took a 13-8 lead after eight minutes of play.
Manvel was plagued by seven first quarter turnovers, but the Lady Tors turned it over 10 times in the second period allowing the Lady Mavs to go on a 14-4 run for a 22-17 lead at intermission.
The Mavs started the second quarter with an 8-2 run as sophomore guard McKinzie Green scored all eight points.
Ball High whittled the lead to 26-25 midway through the third period, but Manvel found a way to get a grip on the game at 34-28 to start the final period.
Manvel closed out the game in the fourth quarter 14-10 including 6-for-6 at the charity stripe to get the 48-38 district win.
Green finished with a game-high 26 points including five 3-pointers to pace the Lady Mavs.
Both teams will advance to the post-season with Manvel as the No. 1 seed and Ball High No. 2.
Manvel improves to 22-9 overall and 15-0 in district.
