Friendswood competes at state swim meet

The Friendswood Mustangs had to compete against a fast field at the UIL state swim meet that was held at the Lee and Joe Jamail Swim Center on the University of Texas campus.

The Friendswood boys finished in 16th place with 45 points while the girls finished in 42nd place with six points.

Friendswood swept the District 24-6A championship for the boys and girls this season and both teams finished in third place at the 6A Region 6 meet.

Senior Mark Theall was one of the top finishers for the Mustangs as he finished sixth in the 100-yard butterfly (48:58) and 11th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:40.37).

Michael Claunch placed fourth in the 1-meter diving with 416.85 points while teammate Brandon De La Fuente finished 15th with 319.50 points.

The 200-yard freestyle relay quartet of Sadie Wilson, Olivia Theall, Allie Hansen, and Sydney Gurry finished 17th in 1:39.62.

The girls 200-yard IM relay foursome of Allison Proulx, Sydney Gurry, Olivia Theall, and Sadie Wilson placed 14th in 1:48.72.

The boys 200-yard IM relay quartet of Max Hardt, Nico Monroig, Mark Theall, and Josh Haffelder placed 15th in 1:36.64.

The boys 200-yard freestyle relay of Theall, Hardt, Monroig, and Thomas McHenry placed 15th in 1:27.66.

Hardt placed 17th in the 200-yard IM (1:54.15) and 16th in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.36).

Wilson placed 20th in the 100-yard freestyle in 53.52.
