Room is still available for Galveston County citizens to attend the first annual Galveston County Day at the Capitol March 1 in Austin.

Six County Chambers of Commerce are sponsoring the event with the County. The plan is for a strong contingent of citizens representing every community in Galveston County to be in Austin to discuss county concerns and issues with current legislators.

The Galveston County goal is 250 people sharing county priorities with elected officials.

“Our Legislative Team of Senator Taylor, Representative Greg Bonnen and Representative Wayne Faircloth do an outstanding job representing our interests and are highly respected in Austin. Our presence in Austin that day will send a message to the entire state that we stand behind them in their efforts,” Rathburn said.

The county and the six chambers are sponsoring a legislative reception and seafood feast while in Austin to thank both Faircloth, Taylor and Bonnen along with other legislators.

According to Bix Rathburn, Director of Economic Development for Galveston County, the critical issues facing the coastal county includes public school funding, local tax policies, and storm surge suppression to name a few.

A bus running from the Texas City – La Marque Chamber office will head to Austin for the trip or volunteers can car pool with a group from an office or organization. Anyone interested in riding the bus or being a team leader needs to send their name and contact information to Rathburn.
