The 2016 Class 5A All-State teams were announced by the Texas Sports Writers Association and several Manvel players were named to the elite teams.
Derrick Tucker was named to the first-team 5A defense. Mavs’ receiver Keylon Stokes captured a second-team offensive nod and lineman Koby Foster earned enough votes to make the third team defensive unit.
Texas A&M signee Tucker delivered 60 tackles, six interceptions and two fumble recoveries for his senior campaign. All-District 23-5A MVP Stokes, who signed with Tulsa University, grabbed 80 receptions for 1,263 yards (15.8 yards per catch) and 15 touchdowns.
Foster (Central Arkansas signee) provided 50 tackles, 14 quarterback hurries, four sacks and one forced fumble.
Manvel’s All-State honorable-mention picks included quarterback Kason Martin, lineman Alfred Bryant (Indiana University signee), linebacker London Harris (Texas State signee) and Jalen Preston at kick returner.
Gaining newcomer of the year accolades for both 23-5A and All-Greater Houston, Martin completed 24-of-359 passes for 3,443 yards, 46 TD’s and 13 interceptions.
Preston accounted for 508 combined return yards on punt and kickoff returns with three TD’s, while compiling 1,269 all-purpose yards with 13 TD’s.
Despite facing double teams from his defensive end spot for most of the season, Bryant compiled 38 tackles with four sacks, two fumble recovers and one forced fumble during the 2016 campaign.
Harris also turned in a banner season with 84 tackles, 11 QB hurries, three sacks and one forced fumble.
