The Manvel Mavericks got a 5-2 baseball victory over the Fort Bend Marshall Buffalo as Manvel pitcher Myles Simmons allowed only three hits and two runs while the Mavs banged out nine hits off losing pitcher Kerry Boykins in the District 23-5A contest.
Simmons went the distance while the Buffalo went through four pitchers against the Mavs. Simmons struck out six and walked two batters. He threw 83 pitches in the game with 55 being called strikes.
Manvel scored three runs in the bottom of the second for a 3-0 lead before Marshall scored in the third to cut the lead to 3-1.
The Mavs added runs in the fourth and fifth frames for a 5-1 advantage.
Marshall added one more run in the sixth to post the 5-2 final score.
Manvel had three hitters get two hits apiece as Warren Laster was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Jacob Harris was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Eric Benitez was 2-for-3 with one RBI. Damon Fernandez was 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
Kane Mendieta had one hit while Isaiah Benavidez was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
