The last day for senior, disabled person and vet second quarter payment is Friday, March 31.
Payments may be mailed or left in GCTO drop boxes, paid online (www.galcotax.com) via electronic check ($1 bank fee) or credit card (2.5% merchant fee) or credit card via telephone (toll free) at 1-866-865-1433 (English) or 1-866-865-1435 (Spanish). Full time Tax Office branches are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday in Galveston, League City, Santa Fe and Texas City, Thursday and Friday at Friendswood City Hall and the third Tuesday of each month in Crystal Beach. April 6 is the last day to register to vote or update address information for local elections scheduled May 6. Voter registration applications are available at all GCTO locations or online at www.galcotax.com. Contact the Voter Registration Department toll free at 1-888-976-2280 and an application can be emailed or mailed to you.
Property owners need to be aware that with an on-going robust real estate market, to be prepared to see a Notice of Appraised Value appear in the mail in late April. How can you prepare to protest the value? First understand that values are determined on the Jan. 1 condition so take photos and obtain estimates of needed repairs or, if you recently paid less than the appraisal notice value or if personal property was included with the purchase price, contact the Galveston Central Appraisal District (GCAD) at 409-935-1980. All those wishing to protest their value must schedule an appointment with an appraiser no later than May 31.
