Rotarians and Friends of Rotary who enjoy golf are ready to play this year and possibly win a cruise while on the course. It is all part of Cruise for a Cause May 1 at the Pearland Rotary Club’s 46th annual Golf for Charity Golf Tournament at Golfcrest Country Club.

Pearland Rotary Club’s 46th annual Golf for Charity Golf Tournament will be on Monday, May 1, at Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland. The event will include a 4-person scramble, box lunch, awards reception, dinner, auction following the golf and a cruise.

For the first time, the tournament will also provide a cruise for a lucky golfer and a guest. Themed Cruise for a Cause, the winner will not have to be a Hole in One winner as in the past for winning the top prize but instead a Closet to Pin winner.

That golfer will win a 5-day Carnival Cruise departing Galveston.

“This is a special treat this year and we are encouraging all Rotary and friends of Rotary to sign up while there are still openings,” Rotarian Craig Slater said.

Lunch will be available at 11 am and the tee off time is set for noon.

All golfers will receive golf and cart, goody bag with promotional items, range balls for practice, lunch, refreshments on the course throughout the day, awards reception, dinner and auction along with a free subscription to Golf Digest magazine.

The tournament will feature special hole-in-one contest sponsored by Strickland Chevrolet, longest drive contest, tiger drive, putting contest and closest to the pin contest.

The event will also include frozen margarita machine, Jello shots tent, cigar tent, chair massage, popcorn machine, snow cone machine and a disc jockey for entertainment.

The money raised through this charity tournament will fund a number of local projects including: Dare to Excel scholarships for Pearland, Dawson and Turner High School students, a Valentine’s Dinner & Dance for local special needs adults, livestock purchases at the Pearland Show from our FFA and 4-H students, and after-school program support by funding equipment and supply needs.

Funds will also help purchase and maintain defibrillators for Pearland schools, sponsor local blood drives, sponsor the Garden Club at Pearland Junior High West, support the Guerrero Clinic, provide and deliver Valentine gifts to residents of Windsong Village and support Westside Spray Park.
