The Tom Reid Library is about to begin construction that will bring about a variety of renovations to the complex. The work is part of the $3.3 million contract approved by the Pearland City Council.
An 8,560 square foot addition will be added on the northwest side of the existing library building. The addition will provide more restroom areas, check out kiosks, building support rooms and storage, staff office space, larger areas for children, adults and teen areas, and more help desks and increased lounge seating.
The HVAC system will be replaced with a new chiller system and new LED lighting will be placed in existing and new spaces and in the parking lot. Interior finishes and new exterior signage are also included in the project.
The library is working with Brazoria County Library staff to minimize the impact of construction on services provided to the public.
The City requested to keep the library open and accessible to the public for the May 6 election as well as the summer reading program at the library which runs throughout the summer and concludes Aug. 15. The contractor took the requests into account when scheduling the upcoming construction.
Tom Reid Library along with Westside library are the highest in the Brazoria County network in terms of circulation.
The renovation/building project for Tom Reid Library is part of the bonds approved by Pearland voters for capital improvement projects.
