Change is on the horizon in Manvel as new city officials win voter approval. Challenger Debra Davison won the Mayoral election over incumbent Delores Martin with 61% of the vote.

Davison currently serves on the Manvel Zoning Board of Adjustments and served on the original Charter commission and the two subsequent reviews, chairing the last review.

According to her profile in the Voter Information Guide, Davison shared, “In seeing the development that is happening in our town, I became concerned that the Council is not moving to set the plan before buildings and developments are making plans of their own. It is important that we are the leaders of what will become the new landscape of our city.”

Challenger Brian Wilmer won Council Member Place #3 over incumbent John Cox with 54% of the vote. Wilmer is the Park Manager of Discovery Green Park, but started life as a landscaper and pushed many a wheelbarrow around in his early days. Wilmer moved to Manvel eight years ago and according to his profile, “…fell in love with the place; the people, the land, the space, the quiet, all of it. We have so much potential here and I want to see it become a reality.”

Challenger Jason Albert won Council Member Place #5 over incumbent Larry Akery. Albert currently serves as Deputy Chief of EMS for Fort Bend County. Albert has managed budgets in excess of $12M annually and has demonstrated the ability to successfully “turn around” poorly performing processes in business. Appointed to the MEDC by unanimous City Council vote, Jason currently serves as Vice President of the Manvel Economic Development Corp. According to the voter profile, Albert believes in driving innovation and entrepreneurship to support local small business.

Additionally, Propositions #1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 received voter approval and Proposition #3 failed with a 61% to 39% voter margin.
