Construction can begin on a Capital Improvement Project off West McHard after Pearland City Council awarded a bid for the work recently.

The West McHard Pedestrian Path Project is underway and will result in the construction of 28,000 square feet of sidewalk along the north side of West McHard Road between the SH 288 right of way and Country Place Blvd.

The new pavement will tie into existing pedestrian features at the traffic signals on both east and west ends.

The $300,000 project is projected to be completed by September 2017.

This developed segment of McHard Road is a major thoroughfare that is without pedestrian or bicycle accommodations.

The addition of the pedestrian path or sidewalk will allow residents to access local retail, commercial and entertainment sites without the use of motor vehicles, according to city officials.
